Hong Kong King’s Chef next to Gumshara
Another day at work and it’s another meal at eating world, the home of Gumshara. This time I decided to give Hong Kong King’s Chef a crack.
DEEP FRIED CHICKEN WITH GINGER & SHALLOT OIL $9.8
At $9.80, the serving is massive. The two chicken Maryland pieces were huge and cooked perfectly. The flesh was succulent, as you would have guessed the drumsticks were the best part. The skin on leg was super crispy but light. The skin just shattered upon biting and provided welcomed saltiness and chicken skin flavour.
Guess what there’s more, the hidden veggies under the chicken had a crunch to them and were a good side to the chicken and rice. The soup was the only average component.
The only minus are the broken pieces of bone in the thigh which is excusable at this price.
Overall, the deep fried chicken is a complete dish with great honest flavours and it also had a good contrast of textures from crispy skin, succulent meat, vibrant veggies and soft rice.
Purely based on value on the CBD, this was one of the best lunches I had last week. Not many meals under $10 can complete. The chicken was executed much better than the average Chinese restaurant. The size of the serving is massive and could easily feed two people.
Would I go again?
Yes! going to try more dishes.
